Tutoring Guidelines

·        Pick up the key before 5:00!

o       On your day to tutor, you (or the other tutor) need to pick up the key from VH 2400 before it closes at 5:00.  Go to Lana’s desk and ask her for the accounting tutoring key.  Tell her you are with Beta Alpha Psi.  You will have to sign for it.  After your tutoring session is over, return the key to the Business Division Office by sliding it under the locked door.

·        Call DPS to open VH1420 early.

o       Call DPS at 785-4176 to have them open the door to VH1420.  Make sure to call at least 15 minutes early!  It takes them a little while to get there.  Note that this requires you to show up a little before 7:00.

·        Once DPS lets you in, find the solutions manuals and sign in.

o       The solutions manuals are in the white cabinet with the printer on it.  Use your key to open the cabinet and find the sign-in sheet.  Be sure to sign in so you get credit for your hours!

·        Help any students that come in.

o       Be friendly, introduce yourself, and give them your attention while they are there.  Many of them will just want to check their answers against the solutions manuals, and that is fine.  However, they are not allowed to copy the answers.  Make sure they have the problems worked out before giving them access to solutions.  If they do not have their assignment completed, offer to help them with any problems they had.

o       Tutors are not allowed to help with Arctic Blast.  You may answer any general accounting questions they have, but refer them to their instructors to answer any specific questions about Arctic Blast.

·        At 9:00 tutoring is over.

o       You are welcome but not required to spend a few extra minutes with any remaining students.

o       When you leave, all students need to leave with you.  Make sure all computers are logged off, turn off the lights, and make sure the door locks behind you.

o       Remember to return your key immediately after tutoring is over.  Slip it all the way under the door of VH 2400.

·        A few other notes…

o       Be persistent with DPS - they will try and tell you that they cannot find your name on a list.  Just tell them that someone else had this problem a few days ago and that they eventually found it.

o       If you cannot make your session, contact Laura as far in advance as possible by email (lnp689@truman.edu).

o       You are welcome to bring and work on homework if you have down time.  Just remember that the students come first.

o       Communicate with your tutoring partner about who will pick up the key.  I will email a reminder to both of you that includes both email addresses.·
